Project Challenges

Working in active storage facilities requires daily coordination with plant operators to establish approved activities in the work areas. Existing underground piping and poor soils combined with a high water table complicated the deep excavation on this project. The protection and safety of the existing process piping was a major challenge. Simpson & Brown worked with the design team on value engineering items to eliminate underground piping. Piping was changed to above ground and pile-supported pipe supports carried product lines. This resulted in large savings for the owner with minimal interruptions to existing active daily operations.

Work Performed:
  • Pile Supported Foundations
  • Gantry Crane and Steel Frame Erection
  • Concrete Pads
  • Removal and Replacement of Existing Screen Wall
  • Sheeting and Shoring for new Underground Storage Tank
  • Support of Excavation for Below Grade Process Piping
  • Fire Protection Lines
  • Sidewalks, Landscaping, and Irrigation
